Hi all,

We're moving from the mountains of western China to its heart, south of Guilin. Such a stunning location and one I am sure I will never tire of shooting... This is just a random selection from one morning trip up the river from the new home... all the best...

This is a series that just makes me want to go there here and now. Thanks for putting Guilin on my list of must-go places. My travel agent is truely grateful for people like you.

Beautiful set Alistair! How about a little background on the 3rd? It's really different to say the least.

The shot was taken in Reed Flute Cave just 5km from the center of Guilin. The whole area is a series of substantial Limestone Peaks and caves. This is actually quite a small pool inside the cave, but is still very beautiful...

Holy monkeys. Wicked set. Great mood in 1 though I prefer 2 for the slightly better comp. Stick to 700px high for web btw. 3 is just silly. Really that blue in there? Great stuff

These are spectacular captures. This place is awesome!! It is in my travel list since 2007. I just wanna be in this boat with all these limestones around me. I was debating between Guilin and Vietnam (Hanoi-I think). Finally...I went to Africa

But it is on my future list.

Excellent images.

alibenn,

Wow, poster perfect images! Lijiang is blessed to have photographers like you to showcase it to the world. I am originally from China but have never visited that part of the country. Would love to do so someday.

I have book marked your site and am sure will visit often. Thanks for sharing these great images.

Beautiful set Alister - I really liked the first one until I scrolled down to the second one. The colors and reflections in that shot are incredible.

Great work.

Hi Alister ,

Like most people here , I favour the second picture with its presentation of the limestone pillars so beloved by the classic school of Chinese wall-scroll painters . I like the way in which you have used white balance variations(?) to produce both pre-dawn and post-dawn versions of what is essentially the same scene in the first two pictures . It's amazing to see how many different effects are possible with quite small changes in the colour balances. I presume you've applied the same technique to the cave image ; very eye-catching , but I don't think that psychedelic explosion would sit very well on my living-room wall !

Thanks for that... Yes, the first two are seconds apart, but treated cold and then mellow, somewhere in between nearest the truth I suspect. The cave is illuminated, so it was choice of what seemed accurate for that one,,
