Here is a photo I captured in Ireland a few weeks ago. The colors are dramatic - wondering whether it is too "surreal"? I combined two exposures together - one for the sky / mountains and one for the lake.

Any comments / feedback would be appreciated.

Hey Alan,

It looks super! It's one of those once every year sunset shots! It looks good to me, and combining the two shots is a very effective way to balance the exposure.

Good work!

Thanks Jim. It was a rare sunset - I have stayed in this location several times before and never seen anything like it. We drove all day from Dublin to Killarney in Ireland stopping along the way to see some sights and arrived 30 mins before this scene (not planned). I jumped out of the car, got out the gear and began shooting.

Usually it is very cloudy here in the evening - on this ocassion there were some clouds present but not on the mountains. The sun was setting behind the mountains, the light reflected off the clouds and onto the lake...

Wow!!! That is a fiery sunset! Very nice composition. I love the colors in the lake.

Well, to me the best of test of whether a certain image is done well as opposed to being overcooked in some way, is that when you first see a shot, you say 'WOW!', instead of saying 'Hmmm. That looks strange...' In this case the 'WOW!' escaped my lips immediately, and even after reading that you combined 2 shots to create the image, I still never had any of the 'that looks strange' feeling. Or to be more succinct about it, "GREAT SHOT MATE!"

That's fantastic! The only downer is likely to be you'll have a hard time topping that one with any other sunset shooting you might get into in the future. But hey, that's a NICE problem to have, I'd say. Oh, and also, another issue is, now you need to find a place on your wall to hang this one up

I think it's great. The colours are stunning and I like the silhouetted mountain and foreground. Well done on the blend.

Magnificent colour and magnificent picture ! I have spent a total of only 6 weeks in Ireland , so I can not say how rare these conditions are , but I think this may be a one-off for that part of the world . Congratulations on being there with the kit , and the skill to use it !

wow..amazing colors. You did a great job with the blend. That would be lovely with a wider angle too.

Thanks for the feedback. This image will surely end up on my wall, I am hoping that it may end up on a few others as well! I have been waiting for a chance to produce a rare image of a well known landscape - the Lakes of Killarney are a landmark in Ireland.
