Thanks so much for the feedback from my last senior session. Here are some samples of another session I recently had: two senior boys, best friends, who wanted to do the shoot together.

All images were shot with 85mm 1.8 and natural light.

The first guy wore a bright orange shirt. I toned it down in some of the images -- should I tone it down in this one? Also, this was my favorite image, but some people have told me the shadow side of his face is too dark. Thoughts?

The next guy was NOT a smiler. Wasn't interested in pictures of himself smiling. I tried my hardest, but it was like pulling teeth! Even joking around with me and his friend, he never cracked a smile. This was the best I could get.

Wasn't expecting that last one, lol.

Some people are difficult to get going.

All of these are nice shots, but from both subjects the expression is the same. They're just staring blindly into the camera.

The subjects do seem a little lifeless, but if that's what they wanted then no fault of yours. My only critique is about #3 - the lighting seems flat, the skin has too low a saturation, in my opinion. Love the lighting in #1 though

I have a question. Are you adding the vignette to these?

Hi Steve, I've added a vingnette on some of them. #2 and #6, and a bit on #5.

Thanks for everyone else's comments so far.

Any thoughts on whether his orange shirt is okay in #1 or whether I should tone it down as in #3?

Unless it is a Tennessee football advertisement, I would tone down the orange, it pulls my eyes away from his face.

looks like you are doing a great job.

I don't think #2 works well for B&W conversion. The shirt and pants are too light when converted which, in turn, blend with his skin.

The second kid really looks like he has an ellipsis on his mind 24/7 in these photos.
