Hello guys,

I was wondering why there hasn’t been made a master thread about the Mark IV and why nobody seems to be discussing the machine?

Thanks in advance

Nobody is discussing it because there is precious little info out there, with few reviews and virtually no sample images.

Probably because it's not available yet? A master thread for hearsay & gossip

Has that ever prevented a 20 page long thread here before?

I'll give you that.

Maybe it's because there is such a small "real" market for such a camera. Most photographers have seen the price and either know they'll buy or know they won't. There's enough information to keep speculation down, but not enough to draw any real conclusions with. Oh you'll find the occasional complaint about how ISO 102,400 is unusable, or it sucks because of the 1.3 crop.

I am waiting anxiously for more information, because this is somewhat like a dream we're all trapped in. I think Canon's newest product is a vaccuum, because they've sucked all the excitement out of this camera. BTW, mine's on preorder.

Mm, interesting. I at least hope it won’t be a meß like the 1D III.

Because it doesn't cost $2k.

It's just another incremental upgrade, and unlike lower end stuffs, people can't wet dream for feature xyz because everything is already there.

because the CF card door was glued shut.

The 7D and new lens masters were not started until they were officially released

What's more curious is the sheer lack of any information about this camera except what Canon has announced.

why have another thread of bitching and chart scientists professing the trials and tribulations of Noise vs. SNR vs pixel density vs. really taking the damn pictures already...

I never understood the logic behind that. You give a tester a beta sample and then prevent him from fully doing his job. Why?

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I see three inhibiting factors at play here:

(1) The camera is expensive, thus the interest is diminished.
(2) Consumers are cautious about the camera performance, after a lengthy and sobering MkIII melodrama.
(3) Canon is probably doing a heavy handed control of premature (?) camera test info publication by their contract photographers and others.

I, for one, am certainly not hot to trot. For starters, I ain't gonna give them $5k for "that", nor anywhere near it, even if the camera could fly on its own after ducks and take their pictures at the same time. Secondly, it will be a long while yet before a statistically meaningful operating experience feedback starts to gel out.
Consequently, my current interest in the subject is marginal and largely academic.

Mainly because it is a bit of a "ho hum" upgrade and Canon has effectively squashed discussion with their refusal to allow proper reviews.

Silly me. Forgot the obvious. Because Fred does not see a necessity for one.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

I'm sorry but $5000 for a cropped camera with an unproven AF is ridicules. Even the MK III with a working AF was overpriced for a cropped camera at $4500. I assume they are charging $500 more since the AF will work this time.

You know what's going to happen..

1) Camera is released to cries of "where can I get one? I just mortgaged my mother, but no stores have the camera in stock. Please help."

2) Followed by comments such as this is "the best ever" and "Wow, look at this tiny jpeg, isn't it fabulous"?

Then, a few months later, when people realize that they don't have a staff of 43 people to help with video production and processing (ala the shill video from Laforet where a full 1/3 of it was "credits") the reality will set in.

Then it's time for either

3) "Uh ohh..." or "Uhhhh gee, I guess it really is just a camera after all".

Reviews before number 3 occurs are probably not going to be accurate.

My favorite is #3 because then they show up in the B&S forums for those that need them, but have slightly smaller budgets :-D That's my plan anyway!

BTW, this camera has been officially announced. It is odd that there is no Master Thread for the 1D Mark IV. The previews that are out from the 1D Mark IV are nearly as through as the previews we had of the 7D, minus a lot of 'test' shots.

Yes, why no master thread for the 1Dmark IV? There was a thread about the 5D MarkII, and people were complaining about it, a year before Canon even announced it.

Maybe this time the Canon mobsters don't want any negative publicity... Maybe they visited FM HQ to make sure that doesn't happen
