I think he means somebody who would convert a lens from one system to another, like Jim Buchanan does for Minolta, Canon FD and Leica R, and Conurus does for Contax N to EOS.

I made EF lens conversions of FD, MD, MC, and Konica.
(But I am sure Dim.ka_ has more and better references than me.)
