When I put the Battery Grip on my 20D, the battery level on the LCD indicates that the battery is empty, even though the battery just has been fully charged; if I ignore that indicator, I can shoot as long as if the battery was fully charged.

BUT, at a hockey game recently, with the Battery Grip, the batteries would indicate empty and in fact I wasn't able to shoot. I had to take the Grip out and shoot the game without it.

I guess it's time to send it in to Canon for a checkup?

Anybody had similar problems?

I just sent it in for repair. It's still under warranty, I guess they'll give me a new one.

interesting - never had this happen on either BG-E2N grips I've owned. Let us know what Canon has to say!

This is the BG-E2 N not the original BG-E2, right? This sounds exactly like the problem with early s/n BG-E2 grips but I've never heard of it being an issue with the BG-E2N.

Yes, it is BG-E2N.

I'll keep you posted on what Canon say.

Yup the BG-E2 used to have this, and other problems, especially when it was released with the 20D.

Well, I got it back from Canon Canada and here is what they've done.

"replaced main PCD and battery case, cleaned and tested"

I asked the guy at Henry's, and he said that "PCD" was the circuitry.

It was a fairly fast turnaround. I dropped it off at Henry's Retail store in downtown Toronto, on Nov 3rd and I got it back on Nov 20th.

It's not that Henry's is quick... it's that Canon is.

Yeah, Henry's Retail Store sends it in to their Distribution Centre and the Distribution Centre sends it to Canon; same thing on the way back – this adds a few days to the repair cycle.

They don't charge shipping though.
