7Ds are selling new for $1699.95. folks are asking around $1625.00 for slightly used ones (few hundred actuations) on the buy and sell board. For about $75.00 more I think I would rather buy new and be the original owner. Anyone have different thoughts?

Agree, I guess they are anticipating a shortage or the impulse buyer. I see this alot in camera prices as they tend the fluctuate when someone writes a review. The Fuji S3's and S5's are getting a lot of action and S3's are going for $700 plus at times not bad for a camera design from 2005.

My thought is that people are allowed to try and sell their used cameras for whatever they think they can get.

Many have said recently that Best Buy has a ten percent off coupon readily available 'til the end of november......prices coming down already.

In the same line of thought, people are allowed to ridicule bad prices if they wish.

I never said that folks couldn't try and sell them for what they think they can get did I?

Eh, I'd buy used to save having to pay the taxes.

Personally, I'd buy new unless it's the case of someone having two or more because they were on a few waiting-lists. I've already had an associate offer me MORE than the MSRP for the 7D I got as a gift. I'm keeping it.

Sure we can ridicule but not in their B&S posts, that would be ...In any case, just because there are ads for 7D's with asking prices of $1650 (or so) it doesn't necessarily mean they are selling for that amount. Maybe the actual average selling price is $1550...or maybe some people just want one fast from a trusted FM'er that can confirm no camera issues and are willing to pay a premium.

It's really no different than any other piece of new-ish Canon gear for sale on the B&S forum these days... everyone wants to sell used items for what they paid new... or in some cases, more than they paid new after the manufacturer's recent price increases.

US$1625 for a 7D might seem high to you, but to a buyer in Canada or overseas, it's quite a bargain...

Hmm, let's see...

1699.95-169=1530.95...10% off @ BB

1530.95x1.08=1,653.43...plus 8% sales tax

Used prices at 1599 to 1675=no big bargain...Me? I'd go with BNIB.

You have a right to ask any price you want for your camera on the B&S forum and you as a buyer have a right to buy or not buy at that price.

Personally if your willing to look around and shop wisely you can get just about anything at a lower price. I spent $1258.08 for my 7D after using Bing Cashback, a e-bay 15% discount I had, and a $50 rebate from the Canon Loyalty Program.

With just the Bing Cashback you can get it for $1563.08 and with the Canon Loyalty Program, with a registered qualified product, another $50 off for a final price of $1513.08.

There are international buyers that will pay above USD retail buying used.....can't always justify why, purhaps currency exchange rates among other reasons, but i've sold used stuff above retail before and of the 3 lenses i've sold on here, i've received a few people offering to pay more to ship international (above and beyond the increased cost of shipping+fair market value). Retail chains aren't willing to mark things as gifts on the box which will cost the canadian buyer additional taxes.

No surprise as the 7D is still new and in short supply, so market value is high. Wait another 6 months and things will be different.

"folks are asking around $1625.00 for slightly used ones..."

people can ask whatever they want, i suppose. now, what they get, however, might be something a bit less than desired.

Yeah, I know the feeling. I've sold a lot of Canon gear on EBay and figured many a time I'ld probably lose money dumping it. Amazingly the bids often hit pretty close to the price of a new one, sometimes higher. They tend to go cheaper on FM but even then people sometimes make offers higher than my asking price. Gotta love the market.

FYI, marking a package as a "gift" makes absolutely NO difference in the amount of tax that will be collected on it when it's imported into Canada...

Um, maybe there isn't a Best Buy everywhere with 7Ds in stock?

Just a thought.

I suspect some people who bought 7D's want to switch to the professional level 1D Mark IV

a 1D IV would be nice, but too expensive to consider.
