It appears that not everyone has read the actual article fully.

The girl was pregnant. She even gave birth on the day of the wedding, which strongly suggests this may have been the reason that the marriage took place. They may have likely been pushed by the family to avoid social taboo 'shame.' To be pregnant in a premarital relationship is looked down in many cultures.

The "toy" she was referring to was the baby, which is apparent when the article is read within in its proper context.

In regards to younger marriages, some religions and cultures have encouraged marriage after a female has reached her first menstrual cycle for different reasons. Many would be surprised which societies have done this for thousands of years.

I would suggest to learn the sociology of different cultures and history before rushing to judgement based on just a brief glance at a headline.

Well. Wow.

That said, my mom got married very early. CRAZY early. Had me at 16 AND I have an older brother. Completely cultural though. This story seems different.

I'm not surprised it happens but we just do not hear about it much these days. Folks in the USA used to marry at 15-17 yrs old so its not so unusual even in American history.
