After a precipitation record shattering month of October and arriving home from work Friday evening to yet again completely overcast skies, the last thing I was expecting were photo ops to arise. Besides I had a dinner party to go to at 18:00.

So after putzing around the house for a bit, I started to leave for the party. But as soon as I pulled the car out of the garage, I became aware of this golden color 'in the air'. More than a little surprised, I looked off to the west and off in the distance could see this distant line ending the cloud cover directly overhead. The sun was down just enough to be peeking under, and bouncing off the clouds, and that's what was producing the glow.

Party?!? Photo Op?!? Party?!? Photo Op?!? What to do....what to do.(??) Well, it took me all of about 2 seconds to decide go back in and grab the camera and tripod. And what you see here is about a 17 minute span of the sunset that followed.

Though I was late for the party, the pasta and cabernet were almost as good as the photo op, so all in all, I'd have to say Friday evening was a 'good un'.

Hope you enjoy!

Time well spent Fo!
Each one stands on its own in brilliant glory! But the last, undeniably takes the cake, pasta or better yet the cabernet...
Cheers...

Good decision :-) 2 is crackin'..thought personally I think I would have stepped forward a step to minimize the wood and maximize the awesome colors/reflection. Very cool scene and great catch

Hard to pick, Fo. The golden light in the first 2, especially the 2nd with the striated clouds, is glorious.
Then the bonus, and a lesson.....stay well after the sun has departed.....wow.
Just a wonderful progression. Good call to stay, for sure!

Boy, I can't decide which I like better between 2 and 3! I guess they both must be good

The color on 3 is breathtaking, but I like the detail in the dock and the leaves on the dock in #2, along with the sky, so I dunno. For my taste, I LIKE the amount of dock you have too - it just really works for me.

Good call on the photo op - I love that second shot with the golden skies. The last one is quite nice as well but there is something about the overall lighting in #2 that really works well.

Nice work.

I am going with the light & the color in #3.
Sometimes a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do, besides you were fashionably late too!

Definitely the right decision, especially since you were able to have both!
I like the way the colour is developing in this series. 3 is very good.

You have to go for the light when it presents itself or it will soon be gone. Your choice was a good one and you have reaped the reward. Very nice trio of images.

Hello Fo, yep, you made the right decision And, giving the wine a bit more time to age didn't hurt a thing. Good work.

Excellent decision... if pushed to a decision... #2 gets the vote for me

yep, I would have been late to the party too, no doubt.

They are all great images, and scrolling down and seeing the progression is a wonderful experience, but I kept going back to #2 for the cloud formations and unusual warm golden glow.

Nicely seen, wonderfully captured.

indulgence for the eye is just as important for the soul as wine and food, an indulgence well spent. Kevin.

Wow , Fo , three helpings of delicious dessert in a row . Indigestion should set in at some stage , so I'll have some cabernet to help me out ! A fine trio on which to dwell as winter begins here .....

Solid offerings. They just kept on getting better for me as I strolled
on down to the last.
