I took a walk this morning down the old country lane in the Palos Forest Preserves southwest of Chicago. The forest preserve district is restoring the area patch by patch using prescribed burns and cutting to get rid of the exotic and invasive buckthorn and Amur honeysuckle. Here, the right side of the lane has been restored to what used to be here; a savannah. The right side is choked with Amur honeysuckle, the shade of which kills the native wildflowers. |
