Perhaps this question is asked but I have this problem.

If I connect an external flash system with two umbrellas my eos 1dm3 and my eos 30d have flash problems. It seems the mirror is slower or faster then the flash triggers witch causes a black line/band. This happens in P, TV and AV and in M. I trigger with a wireless second part trigger.

Does anyone know how to handle this?

You are seeing the shadow of the shutter curtain.

When using manual flash shutter speed must be below 1/250th due to the design of the shutter. The shutter has two curtains. The x- speed of 1/250th on a camera reflects the time it takes for the first shutter curtain to clear the sensor completely. Once the first curtain clears the sensor the flash fires and the second curtain closes to end the exposure. At faster exposure times the curtains travel the same speed across the sensor. What changes to cut the exposure is the gap between the two curtains.

Using a radio trigger introduces latency so it may be necessary to use 1/125th or 1/60th sec. Flash stops the action, not the shutter so there is no real penalty for using a slower shutter. Just dim the ambient lights so there is no ambient exposure between the time the flash goes off and the shutter closes.

And another point - I found today one of my flashes would not synchronise at anything faster than 1/30th. Changed the batteries in the flashgun - which had seemed fine and it was OK again.
