Hello all,

I apologise if this has been posted before. If so, would you mind passing on the link for me? (I searched and came up with LR2 posts only).

Previously, with LR 2, it hasn't been possible to have a LRCAT (LR catalogue/database) file on a network share (NAS, other machine) etc, despite the possibility of having your pictures on that other device. If you wanted to edit LR files on other machines, you needed to have a portable, synced copy of the LRCAT (like on a portable HD / USB).

Does anyone know of, or heard anything about network compatibility with the new LR? It would be great if you could park the LRCAT on the NAS and not worry about it!!!

Thanks in advance!

Still true. SQLite that LR uses doesn't work well with networks - it's not just multi-user that's the problem, but simply the fact that network connections can drop at inappropriate moments and corrupt the catalog beyond repair. When network capabilities come onto the horizon, it'll be a huge overhaul, and other things (i.e. image quality) have taken priority at the moment.

If you are happy that your network is stable, it is possible to work around the limitation. I've done it for some time without any problems. The only thing to be aware of is that it is rather slower than running the database locally. And as the LR Queen says, the possibility of database corruption is also there. Let me know if you want to know how to do it.
