Are you aware that Lozeau in Montreal was selling new 1D mkIII cameras for C$3400 some time ago?

Threads like these make me glad that my camera is made of wood. The only thing I have to worry about is termites. Since cameras became computers with lens mounts, we will forever be forever locked into cycles of upgrades and massive loss of value for the obsolete equipment.

Cheer up mfoto, it's an amazing camera - you're going to love it!
(As requested But, happily, I'm being honest. Form your opinion based on your experience with the camera, not the blather that's posted on the internet!)

ahh Kiwi... you are a good man

You see I feel better already.... and I'm also eyeing out that 24 1.4L II for the 5D II so the Mark IV thing will have to wait.

Sensible people think the mkIII is a terrific camera.

But only because it is.

Actually the price of the 1DIV made me decide that my 1D3 was here to stay! Not only would I not part with my 1D3 for $2300, but based on the specs, I can't see how the 1DIV is going to get me an additional $2200 worth of quality. I have a 1DsII If I need the extra MP, but for most of the work I do 10MP is more than enough.

You obviously don't shoot low light sports in gyms lite by candlelight. I'm more then happy to put my strobes away and walk into a gym 5 minutes before a game and shoot, rather then arrive an hour early to setup and aim strobes to have usable images even with the fastest of glass. 6400ISO is nice, but having cleaner 6400 and above is what I need. This weekend I shot 6400 ISO F2.8 1/320th on a football field, 1/320th is not fast enough to stop action in football, but its either underexpose or motion blur to get usable shots.

1D3 price will go up significantly once mk4 ships ($5k) and mk3 is no longer in supply. 5D prices have risen $500 on the refurb front alone since 15 months ago! That makes no sense at all or tells you canon could clean up with a cheaper FF camera.

Thanks for that Chris - I have actually studied economic theory so I'm not entirely uninformed the subject, but I'm fascinated by the way the OP chose to phrase his point as if he was uniquely privy to some great, world-shaking truth, so I'd still like to hear his "revelation"...

LMAO

camera's are not an investment. They drop in value after you buy them.

I figured you did Kieth, my intention was to support your request for this "revelation" as well.

Canon Canada had a IDIII CPS special for $3780 that expired at the end of August. CPS dealers receive a 10% discount, so it appears Lozeau was selling the camera at cost (though may have been taking advantage of some additional discount offered to them by Canon).

You can't pry my two 1DIII's out of my hands for anything right now.
I'm not saying the 1DIV won't be incredible, but I've got two bodies working perfectly right now and I'm in no mood to learn a new camera or put up with a camera that came from the typical bad new batch of cameras that will be recalled in a couple months.
You guys work out the problems, if you don't mind, I'll be on board with the IV in a year or so.

Versus what you're seeing here, whiners who can't believe their mkIII's are worth so little and are jealous because they can't afford a new mkIV?

What else would warrant insults like the above to anyone wanting to buy the new body?

True but they are somewhat an investment. It's kind of like if a Farmer buys a Tractor. Is that tractor an investment?

I think it's extraordinary that people can have enough money to buy a pro body, and yet not understand what will happen to its value, and in a short period of time.

I bought my mkIII used, but know that it will continue to depreciate quickly. That's what happens, it's like water running downhill.

It is, but mostly for the utility it provides, not its capital value.

OP, talk to me in about a year's time, the 1dmk3 will be selling for 1500 or less, don't get a heart attack hearing that price or cry me a river now, will you ? ?? . 1dmk2's are selling already for ~$850...reality check. Last year this camera(mk3) was selling ~$3200 around the same time, get a grip.
