The new model just came out. The same thing happened to the 5d classic when the mark 2 came out. The prices will stabilize eventually- but you have a rush of people who are interested in buying the new one and want to offload their mark 3s

New units are now $3500 or so. A $1000 off for a 2 year old unit is not unreasonable.

$3662 on Amazon right now for a new one, not $5000. $2300-$2400 for the used version of a several year old camera design does not seem that far off to me.

The 7D is likely also driving down used 1D mark III prices.

I chose a 7D over a used 1D mark III. I am focal length constrained and like the crop-ability of the 7D and the nice IQ. There is not enough left of 10 MP when you crop.

I have the 1d3 and one thing for sure. The IQ from a 7d isn't as the 1d3. Lots of posts here prove that .

Completely different cam's try both and you will see the difference. Like a mercedes E class compared tot a ford focus. The focus isn't bad but the a completely other car than the E-class.

Personally I think the auto focus issue, what absolutely was a negative issue gives the 1d3 such a bad name that all good things were shadowed. I've got the 1d3 for about 3 months and it's a very good tool. Fast, sharp focus, punchy true colors. Much much better then my 30d who was very acceptable.

It seems like a lot of people want to get rid of their 1D3's... Used prices are under 2000 euros right now over here. Now is a good time to buy one (used) if you need one.

I think you have everyone confused. In your 1st few posts, it seems as though you were comparing the price of a new 1D3 to the price of a used 1D3.

BTW, if someone wants to sell their 1D3 for $2,300, they will need to do so in the near future.... because after the 1D4 is fully released, the 1D3's will likely push under that price and perhaps closer to $2,000 or even less for well used bodies, which is when I plan to swoop in and get a heck of a deal on a perfectly functioning one with 50k+ clicks.

Yea you got the new sales price wrong. You can even get 1ds3's for under $4500.

Agree, I wouln't sell mine mk III for such money, I would better let him die when his time is over ... What you saw is toy collectors changing their gear from one to toy to another

Yes, I was completely lost until I realized that the OP was not comparing the price of a new 1D3 to a used 1D3. The phrase "They selling it for $2,300/2,400 and the new one is around $5,000.00" doesn't specify what the new one is. In the absence of saying "1DMIV" its reasonable to assume that the OP meant 1DMIII, which is not the case.
