Hii forumers ,

I want to purchase a 70-200mm f2.8 lens, I know that the best lens & more expensive is of course Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 or if u r using Canon the canon 70-200mm f2.8. Can anyone tell me which is the best of third party lens Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 or Tamron 70-200 f2.8. Some one told me that 70-200mm f2.8 is only for portriat and not suitable for outdoor lanscape is this true? If you want to take outdoor photo you should get 200-500mm Tamron zoom or 150-500mm Sigma zoom or Nikkor equavalent!! Please advice.

My gear is Nikon D700 current lens Nikkor 50mm f1.4, Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 and SB900.

The Sigma 70-200 2.8 is a nice alternative to the Nikon. I does not have any image stabilization, but I have a good copy and it takes great sports, and landscape shots for about 1/2 the cost.

A used Nikkor, is that no option? A 80-200 2 ring or p/p.

The Tamron has excellent image quality, great bokeh, and really sharp at 2.8. The downside is it's autofocus. It is SLOOOOOWWWWW!!! If you don't need fast AF the Tamron is great as far as IQ. I can't speak for the Sigma but have had the Tamron.

I've heard great things about the tamron as well, I'd look to that first before the sigma.

A used 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S is a great option.

I was just going to tout this very lens. I bought the Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S a couple of months ago and I am thrilled with its performance on my D90. I can't wait to see what it will do on a D700.

My new Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S (sister lens to the 80-200mm) should be arriving this afternoon, so I'm almost giddy with anticipation.

I'd agree with everyone get an 80-200 AF-S. You should be able to find one for ~1000 USD or if you wait about 6 months it is likely that the 70-200VR may become more affordable as people upgrade to the 70-200 VR II

Dude, soon the 70-200 VR II will be shipping which means the b/s board will be filled with them. Save your money for the mark 1 version used which is killer.

If you not looking for fast autofocus for something like sports or BIF consider the 80-200 non AF-s two ring version. Less than the 70-200 or 80-200 afs. I think new it's aboiut the same as a used 80-200 afs and used from 600 -800.
Great optics just not SWM
