I had some fun over the weekend with remote flashes ![]() ![]() Metz 60CT-4 in the back on a slave set to be 4 stops over. That gives the almost graphic rim-lighting Canon 580EX on a radio slave handheld into a honeycomb grid disc set 1.5 stops over for the fill. The honeycomb grid is so great for a contrasty directional with nice gradient falloff 5D2 on a self timer, f2.8 at .6 seconds to get the ambient light burn in, at 180-200mm for the compression. I hit the button and ran forward and to the side with the 580EX and aim for the fill. A reasonably quick setup, and doable without much hassle. Gotta love the dirty air. Share your remote flash captures ! |

so if you are dragging the shutter at .6 seconds, how is she in focus? Is she just standing still in the first shot? If so, good job, cause it looks like you caught her in stride. |

She was pretty still. The ambient light on her was very minimal, so she could barely burn in that much with the slow shutter speed. It needed to be that long to get the rest of the street/lights to expose properly... Of course the flash duration was probably around 1/1000 at that power, which is plenty quick to freeze things. |

I am still just getting started with this stuff, so I don't have any cool images like this yet, but I do appreciate your sharing this. It is VERY motivating. I especially like that 2nd shot. |

Adam, can you post more about simple setups like this one. I love this to learn and I only have 2 flashes and PWs. |
