I'm applying to be a second shooter/assistant for a local wedding photographer. Besides a portfolio of my work, he is asking for a resume.

I've got a great resume, but it has absolutely NOTHING on it regarding photography (All software development experience). Do you think that he is wanting that resume, or a new resume with my photo experience on it (Very little paid work, a few minor awards, etc). Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

why not ask him?
I would definitely create second CV with more photo related stuffs in it as it looks you might need it in future again anyway?

I might try to emphasize work experience that shows you have the ability to work well as part of a team, can multitask and manage a large workload, and can work calmly under pressure. Those are all traits of a good second shooter in my opinion. The portfolio should take care of proving that you have an eye for photography.

You should create a new CV for every job, especially if it is very different. Don't be afraid to include some of the items from your original resume' if it shows good work habits, worldly experience that all workers need, or specific skills that might be useful (computer skills, other artisic endeavors, etc).

Not sure why he wants a resume. But as the other posters said, you definitely need to make a new resume for each job you apply for (even if the jobs are similar and all that changes is subtle word choices to shift focus around the resume). Sounds like you should top-weight it with your minimal photo experience, list the awards, and show a solid foundation of team and individual work with your more traditional jobs below that.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I'm creating a new resume that focuses on my goals as a photographer, and the few awards that I've won. I'll also include my software jobs, with an emphasis on the teamwork that those jobs have required to successfully finish. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

Maybe he wants references to check reliability and work history. Not completely out of the question.
