Someone set me the problem of reverse engineering the lighting for Kirk. Here's my take.

Silver,
Love the first one. I have no expertise in lighting, but the results, the processing are great with wonderful intensity in his gaze. I'd cross post the first to BW and maybe People for additional feedback and showing off!

Second is hot stuff, perfect for the Halloween season. I especially like the effect of the darker spaces, negative swirls if you will, over the cheekbones and the sides of his head.

Both are wonderfully creative. Keep 'em comin'.

I like them both - #2 is quite appropriate for the season...

Thanks guys, Its a self portrait by the way, and the second is doubly appropriate as I'm a fire performer by trade

If your talking about the new start trek... well you forgot the lens flare! I mean wtf... so much lens flare in the new one.

Anyhoo, I like the first one, it reminds me of a UFC fighter image.

I didn't know you were the Human Torch!

"Flame on!"

I like the lighting for the first. How did you set it up?

By the transparent look of the collar on the left, with the brickwork seeming to pass through, you caught Kirk beaming in or out. Excellent timing.

I always liked Torch best. Must be the pyro in me. Still I have it all safely channeled now

Set up: 2 bare lights behind right and left, flagged to stop them coming into camera. 3rd light bouncing off a reflector on the floor in front of me, I then used a flag to keep the front of my neck dark.

I love my radio triggers All the flashes are cheap manual control ebay finds rather than studio lights.

heh, you spotted that Got to leave a glitch somewhere right :P
