I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned here - maybe I just missed it. The development of the CCD shares in the Nobel Prize.

CCD helps increase the popularity of photography, just look around and you can see almost everyone has a digital camera or a camera phone taking pictures.

Certainly the CCD has tyransformed photography etc. Interestingly one of the two responsible people, Boyle, is a resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia. See this http://thechronicleherald.ca/BCW/1147218.html

Nice article. I wonder if he really realizes the difference he has made in photography and the lives of all of us photo nuts?
