Hi everyone,

I'm considering starting on a bachelor of arts in photography, and really want to do it in Australia. I've been cheking out some universities on the net, and have found that actually quite a few provide that programme. As you probably understand it's gonna be difficult for me to go down there and check them out for myself, as I live in norway =P I'm hoping someone might be able to help me narrow down the choice!

In advance, thanks!

RMIT in Melbourne is the best photo school in the country. Or you could try the Institute of Technology in Sydney.

p.s. My wife's from Norway's west coast. We still get back often. You'll definitely get a different climate here. About 200 more days of sunshine

Yeah, that's actually one of the schools I've taken a closer look at! Do you know how Griffith in Brisbane compares to RMIT?

I lived in Perth for about a year when I was 10-11 years old, so I'm formiliar with the Australian climate (that's one of the biggest reasons why I want to go back =P). The west coast of Norway gets alot of rain and wind, but it sure gets cold here in Oslo as well! It's about time to get some tan

Thanks Gordon =)

you can also take a look at Photography Studies College, http://www.psc.edu.au/ its based in Melbourne. Not too sure if I would call RMIT being the best in Australia for photography.

I studied at PSC in Melbourne in the early 90's. I have been employed in the photo industry now for the last 18 years (in my own studio since 2000)
From my understanding, Melbourne's RMIT is the best photo college in Australia.

I'm also curious if there are any good schools in Sydney. Any suggestions?

The most well recognised one is the Institute of Technology in Ultimo, Sydney. They have two year (certificate) and 4 year (degree??) courses. There are others but none that I know of that have recognised qualifications.

You could also do fine arts degree at one of the universities with a photo major.

The Institute of Technology has a Diploma (2 Yr) and an Advance Diploma (4 Yrs)

For a degree you'll need to go to the College of Fine Arts (COFA) - linked to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) as Gordon as referred.
