PRICED TO SELL QUICKLY
Vivitar 100 mm 1:3.5 MC autofocus macro for Canon EF, with Matched Macro Adaptor (1:1).
Like-new condition. I'll include a 49 mm filter. *Photos of lens added* *Price lowered*
This lens yields excellent resolution and contrast in macro shooting at typical working apertures.
AF is accurate, although slow. It's a unit focusing lens, not internal AF. The front extends considerably when focusing very close. I use it exclusively in manual focus when shooting macro. AF handy for portrait use.
Direct focusing is only to 1:2 (half life size). The macro adaptor is a multi-element lens that attaches to the filter threads and extends range to 1:1 (life size). Focusing with the adaptor slightly overlaps the range without it (i.e., you attach it when you want to work in the range between 1:2 and 1:1).

Photos below.

Price $139 including PayPal and ground shipping within CONUS.
I am the original owner of this lens, which has led a pampered life.

Not great lighting, but here's a spider shot from last night, full image and 100% crop from 5D2:

I will do some quick shots of the lens itself later this evening.

Here's the lens, with and without the 1:1 adaptor. You can see every speck of dust. There are no scratches other than scuff lines on the lens hood (the sort made by fingernails). The glass is pristine.

A harmless (to humans) variety, but I know a lot of people are uncomfortable around them, and detailed photos can be fascinating or repulsive, depending on the viewer.
Thanks for the bump.

I have this lens branded Phoenix, for nikon mount. I had a Sigma 150 macro and decided that the ratio of use to expense didn't compute, so I sold the Sigma here and kept the "plastic fantastic". The IQ in the macro range is just as good as the Sigma for my uses.

Paul, thanks for your input. I think the IQ is excellent, and I would have kept mine too, except that I wanted something that could double as a portrait lens, and the IS of the new Canon 100 appealed to me. For anyone looking for good macro quality on a budget, I think this Vivitar is tought to beat.

Does the adapter slow the lens down a stop?

No, it has no effect on exposure. It's a multi-element diopter ("close up lens") that is designed specifically for this lens, so it maintains quality with minimal aberrations.

Yes, absolutely. I used it with 35 mm film before going digital. The resolution stands up well even with fine grained b&w film.
