Going back to the photoraphy... Are those 24 or 35mm primes?

I can't tell. I only realized yesterday how similar the 35L and 24L looked.

I was reading that very issue of Nat Geo today! There's a big fold-out of that photo, it's very impressive!

I just got that issue the other day, great fold-out! I was gawking at it like it was a playboy centerfold and my girlfriend looked at me weird

The rigging and Canon hw is insane!

I see 6 Pocket Wizards, 3 1Ds3 with 24L II?

Cool link, thanks for posting Dolina.

Pity about how the thread turned out though...

I'm looking at the pictures and it appears that one set of 3 pocket wizards are attached to the PC port and the other set of 3 pocket wizards are attached to the cable release port.

Though, I didn't see any flashes, so I cannot tell what the purpose of the PWs attached to the PC port is. My guess is that there may have been more rigging beyond the two photos shown in the movie.

There should be an Ice Hockey Penalty Box, whereby users can vote other people into the box for several days. Or the moderators can do it.

This would stop this BS.

When I joined, FM was a pleasant place.
Lately there is a bunch of BS.

Luckily I have a thick skin.

Just count yourself lucky that sour grapers are in short supply. I drop by another forum once a month and boy oh boy they'd lynch you for having great gear. Sadly that forum's mods and admin are the one doing the lynching.

FM by far is the best photog forum. More pleasant people than a-holes.

I was also wondering about the sheer number of PWs. Maybe there's another set of cameras on the other side or the extra 3 PWs are backups

As I mentioned above, 3 PWs are connected to the PC ports and the other 3 PWs are connected to the cable release ports.

Well the commentary in the video only mentioned setting up 3 cameras. That said, the collage showed that it's not just a single row pano stitch.

The only inaccuracy I see in this video are the claims of 1 year spent planning and 3 weeks to set up. What? Anybody who'd versed in production can get this done with a few weeks of planning and a day or two of shooting with enough man power and budget. Looks like the self proclaimed genius with the horrible typing skills has been silenced?

Hey, why all the heavy breathing here? I opened the original post to find out more about how NatGeo rigged the cameras to shoot that cool tree promo. Instead the thread is full of posters bashing each other over details about the trees themselves, and worse. If there's more to say about the photos and the rigging and the problems of stitching 84 photos together, I'd love to read it. Otherwise, please, take a deep breath.

What i must say, without feeding the trolls, is that 20000 dollars of camera, 3 weeks of rigging, or was it planning, immeasurable hype all created an image that most of you saw in a resolution that was less than your first digital camera.

Congrats on overkill. Congrats on feeding trolls.

(just because the internet doesn't transmit sarcasm well, I will also say that I was being mostly sarcastic. Beautiful, inspiring images. Deep Breath)

Kideral,

I have been a member of this forum for a long time (and I see you have as well) and I can tell you that it is still one of the best photographic forums for exchanging information and learning. For the most part it is a friendly place and if you have followed recent events in the B&S forum you would notice the the members go out of their way to take care of each other. Having been on the internet for a long time, I can tell you that things like this happen and there are those that get their kicks from playing the troll. I am sure that the offender will be banned at some point. You can't expect Fred or some of the other moderators to monitor every thread 24/7. There is a little report button next to his posts that you can click on if you are offended which will bring these events to the attention of the moderators. In the mean time if you are like me, just enjoy the show. Some of it is kind of funny, after all we can't be serious all of the time.

Interesting to note that the "Opportunity" hasn't "knocked" again Lighten up folks, some people are bound to make a fool of themselves by opening their mouth!

Agree with both of you though. Been here a long time (should I say "aged") and it is kinda getting tiresome somewhat.

<shrug> I'd rather read a silly song than the constant bitching, moaning and complaining that usually fills the threads on this board. But hey thats just me

Yeah the vid seems to indicate that they were stitching dozens and dozens of pictures there. That is gonna be one HUGE file!

I love that we can measure the distance from the earth to the moon, accurately and repeatably, but a tall tree is beyond us
But I digress, I was at Redwood Natl forest in July and these trees are simply breathtaking.
I will NEVER understand how anyone, from the 1900's to today could cut down a tree that has been standing for long over a 1000 years. just beyond me.
Its sad that so few people know the majesty these trees have, and that photographing them is so VERY VERY difficult!
