Have not used the "P" version since the 60s and then primarily for B/W sports shooting...worked great then...
Unlike KR I have and use an "H"(AI) version and I like it...note, optically all the "H" are the same from '69 to 98 ....only the mechanics and cosmetics differ...and differ from the ED versions from '77....

I just picked up a Nikkor P 300mm/4.5 with canon eos adapter for 26 bucks! including shipping.

Anyone use this lens?

I believe Ken Rockwell comments on it here:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/300EDIF.htm

The lens Rockwell comments on is several generations later than the Nikkor-P.

Look a little closer....he does comment on the "P" version.

I'm selling the very sharp Nikon 300/2.8 ED AIS lens in the B&S. It's a great lens and I'm selling for way under $1000!

Lately I've been feelong a LOT like that little guy in the bottom left!
(the bird would be the banks, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, etc. Probably also my ex-wife, if I had one. )

Anyway, I also have & love a Nikon Ai-s 300 / 4.5 However, it has an "almost bothersome" amount of CA. If I had the money, I'd get a Mamiya APO.

It's been suggested that I clone out the reed in the foreground...
