Print some of your photos for yourself!

Finally, after having moved to digital and been with my D300 since late 2007, I've gone and made some prints for myself. I realised a while ago that although I've had a couple of thousand photos processed, printed and sold over the last (almost) 2 years, I've never actually printed up any of my own shots from the camera to hang on my own wall.

And this afternoon I just picked up two big beautiful 20"x30" canvas prints of my own. And I'm stoked! the canvas really lends a painterly sort of texture to the images which looks terrific.

So go get printing people, compared to the real thing photobucket just doesn't cut it!








And here are the pictures I chose to print, for those who're interested in that sort of thing...

I have my own books that I ordered from Blurb...it takes a lot of time organizing images on a book . I also let a pro lab (PCL in Auckland) do my large Lightjet/Chromira prints. Freaking awesome prints. Nothing compared to those large format Epson prints on luster paper. Lightjet/Chromira prints are the real thing. Price is very competitive too at A3 or A2 sizes.

I do enjoy getting a big bunch of 200 odd 9x6 prints ever 6-9 months. They do look better than on the screen. I rarely go through and look at them though.

Just started doing some more printing myself this year. Just can't beat having your own stuff on your wall. Both shots you have are cool, but man, that first one doesn't even look like it was taken on this planet! Very surreal looking.

Thanks Steve, for something shot out of the filthy window of commercial passenger jet, i think it's scrubbed up alright.











And I didn't even shoot it in RAW!

I recently ordered a stack of 8x10s and 8x12s from my own collections for use as a print-copy portfolio for prospective clients.

What I found (with minimal processing!): Brilliant colors and film-like grain from my D2H's and D40's shots, and my D90's shots look just as good as (if not better than) many film shots I've blown up to the same size.

Love the first shot. Beautiful.

And yes, printing is fun! Good for all of us to be reminded of just how much a nice-sized print adds to our enjoyment of our own images.

I agree. My photo club requires matted prints for all monthly submissions and we get 60 or so every month. We considered using projection, but decided that printing best demonstrates the photographers vision and skill.

There is something special looking at one's printed photo framed and under proper lighting. You don't get that feeling from a computer screen.

I love the satisfaction of looking at a nice print, you just can't get that feeling with an image on a screen.

Also when you are entertaining and people admire the work and ask you were you bought them from and you respond that you made them, awesome feeling.

gallery wraps and canvases are really nice too but i also have had god luck with kodak metallic pearlesant paper and the true b+w matte paper(mpix is a good source to pint on these.
