When Canon unveils the EOS 2000D (a.k.a. Rebel XS2), all those people expecting a 1Dmk4 or 60D will be disappointed...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Too soon for 60D and 1Ds IV and they probably won't release 1D IV until PMA next year, so that leaves 1000D for update.

But I have my fingers crossed for the 1D IV.

However, I do expect some new lenses to be announced, including 70-200 f/2.8L IS II and a macro with hybrid IS.

Something to counter the new Nikon D5000... so, probably a 1000D update.

The Nikon D300s was just a small upgrade... so, Canon must think they are set with the 40D/50D as a competitor. Epecially since the 50D has more MP's... and that what it's all about, isn't it?

I don't know about the mk4 updates... Mk3 prices are falling fast... So, maybe a 1D4?

How about the 24-70L IS?

Fingers crossed (but not holding my breath) for a 60D. Mainly cos I want a 50D and hopefully their value will dip nicely for those of us grubbing about at the cheaper end of the used market.

hoping for a 1D4, because that will make my new 1D3 cheaper.

Even if it will be released a MK2 version of the 24-70mm L, I don't think it will have IS.

By the way,speaking about 1D MK3,if you folks want one,now is the time,the issues were "cleaned",the price is falling and the IQ of this "machine" is absolutely stunning,anyone knows how to determine the latest copies of this camera reading the serial from the bottom of the body?

The Canon announcements are definitely successors to the EOS 50D and EOS-1D III.

The EOS 1000D can wait for its successor at PMA 2010, which clashes with the Winter Olympic Games next February. It will be Nikon's turn to announce something big during PMA, in anticipation of next summer's World Cup Soccer.

Canon will return the favour by announcing its successor to the 1Ds III in Photokina 2010 to be held in September '10.

HAHAHA

I've got a camera supplier in Australia talking to his Japanese contacts who are going through to Canon. But if the annoucement really is in just two days, they're not going to let any info slip.

Very exciting. Want either a 60D/7D to improve on low light and high ISO of my 40D or the 1DIV to be annouced so the price of the 1DIII that I want to buy will hopefully come down a little.

Oh, we can hope it zooms internally, is sharp over the entire zoom range at f/2.8 (as sharp as f/4 and f/5.6) and in the extreme corners... and has a 4 stop IS too... and is less heavy and bulky than the current 24-70L

Sorry, DaaN B,IT wont have IS,and I think that inside of you,you already know it.It can't be f/2.8 and IS because it will kill 24-105L.I decided for 24-105L because of the focal range and IS to help the maximum f/4.0 aperture,if there was a 24-70 f/2.8 and IS I would never made that choice.So they wont do it.Sorry!

I think eventually all lenses would come with IS and besides, some people will still prefer the extra reach of the 24-105, not to mention it's the kit lens for premium bodies so you never know.

The serial number might give you a general idea, but there is a date code inside the battery compartment. That will tell you the month and year. I think the following information is correct.

Take out the battery and look at the bottom, you will be able to see a set of number & letters; like 0V0603. It means:

1st character - Manufacturing place:
U = Utsunomiya, Japan
F = Fukushima, Japan
O = Oita, Japan

2nd character - Manufacturing year:
V = 2007, 1981
W = 2008, 1982
X = 2009, 1983

3th-4th characters - Manufacturing month
01 - January till 12 December

Last two digits: No known meaning yet or no relevant...

Any chance it'll be something without a prism, like the recent offerings from Oly and Panasonic, but with an aps-c sensor like, say, the 50d? It's about time.

The next lens to be remade with IS added will be the 17-40 to complete the collection of f4 is zooms.
