Since I've read conflicting reviews on sharpness of the lens wide open (relatively at least), I'd like to ask real users. Is 50mm f/1.4g sharp at f/2.0 or softer until f/2.8?

I'd say it is sharp already at f/1.4, but it lacks contrast and vignettes like hell. At f/2 it's really good, but still cant compete in terms of local contrast with the Sigma 50/1.4 or Nikkor 50/1.2.

Sharpness is never a problem with the AF-S. Other aberrations are restricting its use if you are after best possible IQ. Still it is a great lens that does fine at large apertures.
