Sort of a quick shot of my dad just messing around with his guitar. Had some friends over and he decided to play a couple tunes...

I had my Q39 softbox set up because I was doing the Strobist Bootcamp II shot...so I thought why not.

I really like the lighting. Good job!

He looks kind.

I think I'd like the 2nd shot a bit more if you had taken a step left, putting the focal point more firmly into the ROT. But I like it all the same.

I love to sit and listen to someone who knows how to play a guitar! #1 is nice, but I'd like to see a bit more of the guitar. Maybe a vertical "portrait" framing. I like #2 a lot as is.

Hey Pixel....Thanks for looking and commenting.

I took a couple like you mentioned...but since it was a spur of the moment shot...I didn't like the lack of control over the backdrop. I might take a look at them and see if I can find one that would work.

I like guitar shots to show the guitar too.
Your #1 shot also has some bright background areas that take away from the composition. I'd suggest moving around until the background is less of a distraction.
What I do like is the charactor in his face and the unique look at the guitar strings in your second shot.

Both shots will certainly be treasures in the years to come. As for number 2, it is an absolutely fabulous shot. I love everything about it, from the color, to the DOF, to the crop. Fantastic.
