Ok, so I bought a 5D from a friend for 1,300. Her shutter went out on her other 5D and so she took both in to get them looked at. The one I bought, they said the shutter was fine. Well the first night I had it which happened to be the 4th of July, the shutter went out. She is replacing the shutter and still willing to sell it for 1,300. Is is wise to use a 5D with a new shutter? How reliable should it be? Or should I expect problems? Thanks! |

If done by a reputable and competent repair house, it should be as good as a brand new shutter, of course the rest of the camera will still be as worn out as ever if it has done the 150,000 clicks it should do before needing a shutter. |

4eyes- the OP is asking about the shutter, not the mirror. |

This is like asking is it ok to purchase a car with the tires replaced. Why not? Unscrew a few things. Replace with new. Screw few things back together. |

I would rather buy one with a new shutter than an old one..... |
