Mine doesn't squeak. I must have one of the "good' ones.

I find it funny that they still have the strap attached to it.

I agree. I've got four video cameras at work that I can use if I feel the need to take a "busman's holiday".

Of course! With Canon and EOS prominently displayed, it couldn't be any other reason!

Erm yeah, but so what? Film or digital are just different routes to the same thing - still images. Moving images are totally and utterly different in every sense.

Video shots have to move and develop, stills are about single instants. They are, and always will be, separate, different working processes, whether a manufacturer chooses to include both sets of tech in one box.

If you're saying 'all WPs will need to shoot video too eventually' I don't believe you - there is so much to capturing good video (most significantly audio) and a whole lot to producing great stills that I can't imagine you can do both excellently. I guess you're also saying then that WPs will have to learn to be sound recordists, and also video editors, as well as photographers and videographers. And do all of the above to professional standards?

That's not to say that some people won't try.....

Your comparison is laughable. Wedding photographers have had access to digital video cameras for the better part of the past decade and they have chosen to do practically nothing with them. Integrating video into a tool they already have changes very little. If you want to take professional video, you need to have serious video tools. These serious tools provide a fairly steep price and barrier to entry with regards to skill and learning curve.

Now if you want to take amateurish video... well. Yeah, thats just what the wedding industry needs. A bunch of photographers trying their hand at crappy, amateurish video just to cop a few bucks.

I do both professional video and wedding photography but I don't do wedding videos. You're absolutely right in that the skills set and tools are totally different.

Which is more difficult is hard to say as they both have their challenges, however I think creating a good video is more demanding than creating good photography simply because of the work involved.

Laughable? I don't think so. The camera doesn't make crappy, amateurish videos, the photographer does. I have seen my share of both good and crappy videos (wedding, industrials, commercial) made with highend digital video cameras by professional and amateur videographers.
I think there will many photographers who will offer some video as the world becomes more multimedia savvy and less print focussed, and this may make it's way to the wedding industry. In the commercial work I do, often a video guy comes along to do some minor video, it's not "Gone with the Wind" it's used in a website or electronic press kit or B-roll and shown online. I have started to take over this job from the video guy....the biggest issue is the extra time involved not the quality of the video.

The serious price of admission has been reduced by the 5D2 FCP and powerful laptops. Many people don't want to learn the other things needed (like editing) but some do, and will be able to expand their business.

How will trying to do two jobs at once on the day expand your business?

I agree. One person cannot possible do two jobs at once and do them well.

If you're going to shoot wedding videos, there are a wide range of very capable cameras that you can pick up cheaper than a 5DII. The only advantage the 5DII has that I can see, is that IF you want do shoot both video and stills (but not at the same time) you have a tool that can do both.

I just shot a quick test of my 5DII's video capability's and while I was impressed with the quality, I was not impressed at all with the camera's operating function as a video camera. If I'm going to shoot video, I want a camera set up like a video camera.

I find it to be even more amusing that they do not have a 5DII pictured. It looks like a 40D or 50D... which do not shoot video.

I noticed that as well. Probably had to use a "stand in" camera for the promo pics! However, they do have a 5DII pictured on their site for some of the other pics.
