IMO, next to 50L's, the 35L is one of the best Canon lenses for city street photography. Naturally, the choice between those two lenses will often depend on the camera form factor one uses.

I thought in this topic we should showcase the qualities of the 35L for street photography, which would also be kinda in line with the traditional role 35mm primes have had in that genre.
I also believe that on this board we have seen the lens often used for portraits, floral bokeh and some landscape.....perhaps not much streetshooting.

Be that as it may, show us how good the 35L can be (is) on the street. If we stick to the topic with good discipline, I promise I will not post any PIF shots obtained with the lens.

Those are some great shots Peter. I can't offer up any street work from my 35L as I've not been out with it yet this season. But I hope you forgive me if I post a few from last year done with the 40D and 24L during a visit to Geneva.

This combo provides a very similar FoV to 35mm on FF, and with the live view/silent mode of the 40D is a fairly discrete package:

Yes, that's the type of photography we are after, Zara.

PetKal; both shots are nice, but that first one is particularly interesting. With the FoV of a 35mm, you couldn't have been too far from those kids. To get a candid like that, without any of them looking at you, is pretty nice, especially for their age, too.

You've got a sharp eye, Joe. Let's just say that I fired many shots at them and only two turned out OK.

Well, I just ordered a 35mm F2 from Canoga, but I am interested in a little light prime to throw in a bag for India. But the L costs more than my entire RT airfare to India so I will live with the EF

nice shots, hope my F2 can come close to that for my trip

I like it for shooting at night. These were taken in very dark conditions.

That's when f/1.4 comes handy. Nice images, Tom....No#1 is 35L in its true form.

Great shots as always. One day Canon will make a 50 as good as the 35...or so I keep praying.

Wait a minute.....pijuns are really a kind of city dwellers. Thus, pictures of pijuns could pass for city street photography.
Here you go, 35L (on 40D) does PIF.
