I have an old Elinchrom Style set of strobes (Style 600, EL 500, 300 etc). One of the modelling lamp (100W 196V) has gone, I am going to replace it.

Does anyone know if I can use the 250W 230V lamp on any of the above strobes? Someone mentioned that if a 250W lamp is used on the above model range, then the flash tube will not clear properly. I am thinking of using just the modelling lamp as hot light in certain situation where I have a lens wide open.

Would this work? Thanks in advance.

Should work fine. I've upgraded My RX with no problems, even though it is not recommended by the mfg. I think it's really a common sense thing. Be aware of restricted modifiers, gels and general heat build up, but with fans you should be good in most situations.

It mentioned on Adorama site that "Always use appropriate fuses" Does that mean I have to change the default fuses to other types of fuses?

The fuse (4 A?) should bear 250W 2-pin halogen bulbs. If in doubt you may replace it by a 1 A higher rated fuse. The main advantage of the 2-pins is in their higher lumen output, compared to Krypton bulbs.

Thanks for that information. Very handy to know. Am I still able to use variable output (dim the output) when using these 2-pin halogen bulbs?

Just had a look, the writing on the fuse for the Model Lamp on the Style 300 is "2.5AF". Do I need to change this fulse if I am going to use a 250W lamp? Thanks.

There's no difference in dimming, of course (bulbs are simple resistive load). The 2.5 AF are good up to 250W @ 240V, so there's no need to change it.

A side effect of the adaptor is the more congruent placing of flash tube to model light. It does not protrude as the standard Halolux et al tubes do.
