Aloha and Happy July 4th everyone,

My family and I are on a mini vacation in Honolulu. Let's hope that North Korean missile isn't heading this way. I did not bring my DSLR at all thinking I just want to spend ALL my time w/ my kids and their activities. My make-up time w/ them.

Ok, this isn't exactly in the wild but it is not from a zoo either. This was taken from an artificial lagoon near where we are staying. I kept trying to sneak up on this dude for a while and finally got this one decent shot. Not only this is my first BCHN but I was just thrilled to be able to capture one up this close and w/ a Fuji Finepix F40fd. All exifs should be there. Nothing spectecular but just want to share. Thanks for looking.
Dan

Oh Danno, good to hear from you, you just can't stay away from us little buddy! It is a delightful P&S image, looks like you used your 'pro gear' to me Enjoy your vacation with your family, no missels allowed!

Yo Danno.. good to hear from you buddy. I guess you're having a good time in the land of surf, sand, sea, and sun (not to forget the sulfuric smelling ash)

24mm? wow, so you were withing pecking range of the BCNH huh. That IQ looks good for a P&S. Can we assume that you're going to put this up as a prize for a coming Bird Idol contest?

Dan,
Nice shot. Did you bring your macro with you? Those birds at Hilton are fairly tame.
Have fun in Oahu. If you get up to the Northshore make sure you check out Waimea Valley Center.

Congrats on your first BCNH! You've figured out one of those little dirty secrets Canon doesn't want you to know about their $200 P&S, it's as good as their their $9000 Dslr+lens! Now Canon Honolulu will have to find you and...well you know the rest. The BCNH looks terrific by the way!

Karla, Thank you my friend. I kinda wished I had brought at least my D300 and 300mm/TC. Never knew these guys hang around here. I also saw a bittern but too far for my PS.

Andy, Thanks Andy. No one warned me about the sulfuric smelling ash...I did smell lots of barbercuing foods Yep this guy was fearless of peple next to him. It was just a matter of waiting for it within my 24mm range w/ some decent lighting. This shot is almost FF.

Carl, Thank you very much. I couldn't agree more.

Ron, Thank you much Ron.

Jay, Macro lens...I should have . They are very friendly around here. There were 2-3 of them, including a bittern, on the main island of the newly built Lagoon. My PS would have absolutely no chance. Thank you my friend.

Rob, Thank you always.

Tom, Thank you very much and Aloha.

Tony, That is to funny. Thank you.

Wing, LMAO LMAO . Thank you very much.

Noelle, You've said it for me. It is a post card from me to all of you from Hawaii. Thank you and you have a great weekend.

Morris, I did not know they had them her either, not to mention right on the beach front. Thank you kindly.

Tim, Nice shot, which of your kids is this . Actually my oldest daughter 9 spotted this dude out for me first. Thank you my friend.

Dan - -

you're in Hawaii & I'm supposed to feel sorry for you because you can only photograph a BCNH with a point & shoot - -

Get real!!!!

Have fun in Hawaii. The one time I was there I was visiting on the set of "LOST" as Ross was working for them. All I saw was a Cardinal. Oh & be careful with the water there.... Ross got so sick I thought he was going to die. He came home in a wheelchair.

Have fun with the family & always travel with good equipment.

Which in this case I guess is a Point & Shoot.....

Hi Lil,

Thank you very much. If I had known these guys are around here and so friendly, I would have brought at least a 300mm lens. Arggg!
