Just saw my trusty camera shop dude yesterday and asked if he'd heard anything about when / if the 50D repalcement might be coming out at all. I think they just had a seminar or industry rollout of upcoming stuff from Canon and he said no mention was made of this. Anyone know anything?
Heading to Africa again in October so am really hoping it comes out in late August or September and has better low light and high ISO capabilities than my current 40D but a quicker frame rate than a 5D2.

i heard canon hired billy mays to announce the camera, they sent him the secret specs so he could announce them. i am still waiting to hear them.

I hear they could potentially be:

35 megapixels
450,000 ISO
nose @ 3200 looks like iso 200 on your 40D
12 frames per second
45 focus points
dual slot cf and sd card
super weather sealing to handle seven inches of rain per second
5" HIGH RES LCD
HD movie mode w/ multiple variables
built in gps
all for $999....

but who knows for sure....hopefully we'll get the announcement soon.

btw, this is a dumb response to a dumb post. if you can't take a joke. sorry.

There hasn't been any credible info and I'd be surprised in this economic climate if the 50D was replaced before PMA in early 2010. I know the 40D only lasted 12 months before the 50D was released, but 40D was still being manufactured and 50D was not the 40D replacement according to Canon, but I can't see them continuing with a 12 month cycle.

Dude Billy Mays is dead... for real he is deceased.
So I guess if Canon sent him the specs it went to the grave with him. Unless he gave a copy to Anthony Sullivan.

Oxy clean that!
Anyway who cares the 50D just came out and its supposed to be a pretty nice camera.
RIP Billy, Pitchmen was a sweet show.

Why wait for what may never come. there are plenty of good DSLRs out there by Canon Nikon and the rest of them which will fulfill your needs today unless you are just dreaming for the sake of it.
My current dream is a Hasselblad XPan III with 50MP digital back and a 15 - 300mm f2 lens and, and, and.....

Just went to the PMA exhibition in Sydney, Darling Harbour last Sunday. No mention of any new body. Fingers crossed they'll announce it next month.

Gee, I always thought the light was pretty good in Africa. Maybe I was thinking of Egypt.

we can only hope they abandon that noisy 15 MP sensor
go back to 10 MP for less high ISO noise
but sadly we will likely get even more pixels crammed into the small 1.6 sensor
very small pixels with high ISO noise

I wouldn't hold my breath. If Canon will be announcing a new camera at August/September then a 2000D or a 1D Mk IV are more likely than a 60D.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

You sound very confident about that, Yakim - there has been an awful lot of speculation to the contrary and right now the odds are pretty much even, for the simple reason that nobody here knows...

No, we need a 1Ds IV thread now. I'll start the bidding at 28MP.

What are they going to add now that will make a discernible difference?

How about the 1D Mark III? Used ones go for around the same price as a new 5D2...

How does the 1DMkIII perform with low light (dawn/dusk) with fast moving objects?

How does increasing pixel count increase high ISO noise?

I wouldn't expect lower noise at high ISO in any 15mp crop camera. If you are looking for that, step up to full frame.

The word on the street, is that everyone is keeping word about the word of the 50D replacement.

No, there is no 50D replacement this year. Everyone can go home now.

I can't think of a better Canon camera for that application, top of the line AF coupled with great high ISO performance.
