Hi all,

Can you educate me on the sex life of shield bugs?

I took this shot after this couple dropped onto the table in the garden whilst my wife and I were eating our BBQ lamb. Much to my surprise I realised that the bug on the right was dead. I'm guessing this is the male and that he must depart this world but remain "locked on" for some time after mating to make sure that "he's the daddy" - can anyone confirm if this is usual for these little critters?

These are, I think, Hawthorn Shield Bugs from the UK

Can't confirm--or deny--anything for you, Paul. Lovely shot though.

Good capture- can only say they do not always die after sex.

Thanks for the comments! LordV, I am now more intrigued as to what was going on here, seems odd for this to be a random incident!
