Living in central North Carolina, I am just a few hours from either the beach or mountains. When one is not sure which one to choose for a weekend getaway, there is always Beech Mountain.

A few weeks ago, we borrowed a friend's cabin for the weekend at Beech Mountain. Just down a ways from the cabin is a trail along Bear Creek. Here is a shot I took there. Hope you enjoy.

Very nice, Ed. It doesn't look like you could have gotten much lower without a snorkel.

Hello Ed, looks like a fine place to spend a weekend. Thanks for sharing the falls.

hugh

PS - not sure why or if it indicates a problem, but this image took a very long time to load - almost two minutes

Hi, Hugh.

Not sure why it took so long. Just tried it on my laptop, and it took only a few seconds.

Cheers,
Ed

Just looked on mine and it loaded pretty quick. Lovely picture, would be better without the leaves. Perfect exposure, etc. I really like the rock in the foreground.

Very nice. Love the composition, the saturation and the slow shutter.

very nice ed, the upper left corner movement bothers me a bit, but otherwise everything else looks very good!

Lovely little stream! The leaves in the ULC are a bit distracting, but I love the feeling I get from looking at this!

One of the most pleasing and relaxing photographs I have seen for a very long time. We are suffering a heat wave here and that water and location looks cool in more ways than one. Thanks.

Lovely shot. I agree about the leaves in he upper left corner, but sometimes it's just unavoidable!

Nice satin like waters - very nice feel to the shot. Yes the leaves are distracting but that's life around moving water. Short of taking a second faster shot and blending that's hard to avoid.

Nice mood to this setting - thanks for sharing it.

Beautiful serene shot Ed, but you should have been lying in the water to avoid those leaves

Very nice. You might be able to clone the leaves out?

I have just posted a revision to this shot, that removes the leaves in the upper left corner. Hope this works better.

Hey Ed,

What a cool little waterfall! I really like the look of this one. Losing the blurry leaves in the upper left corner really really helps the shot. And good job on removing them from the image!

nice pics, very lush, nice satiny water from the low shutter, good lighting.

But.... I have a beef hah with that whole thing central North Carolinians try to pull on outsiders.... about how it is the perfect location centered equally close to the mountains and the shore.... yeah i fell for that.... when it is really equally far!

I mean Boston, MA to the NJ shore is less distance! And the Smokies are like NYC.... to Montreal!

anyway Beech Mtn looks like a very beautiful place.

I'm going against the crowd here, I know, but I like the original! The leaves in question don't protrude into the water space, and don't bother me a whit.
Lovely stream and little falls, Ed. The transparency in the fg water is wonderful!

Thanks for the critique, Simon. Hope you like the modified version better.

Hi, Mike. Your comment about the snorkel made me laugh. I was very low. Had the tripod legs stretched to the limits. Thenks for the remarks.

I appreciate your comments, Paul. Have modified to remove the leaves.
