Snapped this pic of my daughter with my new 40D by chance and I love it so much Im going to blow it up and frame it. However something bothers me about it, I think its because she centered in the middle of the pic (rule of 3rds and all). Should I crop it a bit to move her over or leave her as is?

I like it the way it is.

Rules are not always there to follow - but to be broken.

I think I'd go with as is.

Nice job.

I'm good with how it is. It's not the rule of thirds: It's the "principle."

It's a darling image! I like it.

One question. What color space did you use?

His eyes aren't actually centered. However, I'd suggest an alternate crop where you remove some of the image to the right. It doesn't add to the image. The result will actually "break" the composition "rules" more, but to my eyes it makes a stronger image. I can show an example if you'd like.

One small tweak: I suggest using the clone stamp or similar tool to remove the stray hair resting upon his chin.

I used Lightroom to export it out directly to Smugmug, so I think its using Adobe RGB but Im not sure. Sure, you can show me an example if you want. Oh, and she's a her, not a him

Here's the alternate crop suggestion for her:

My eye also wants to crop the right side; there's just a little too much 'dead' space. I'd chop about half of what A.P. did.

(The inane 'rule of thirds' is something you want to put out of your head forever! )

I LIKE IT, SOME TIMES YOU HAVE TO FORGET ABOUT THE RULES OF THIRDS ETC , OR YOU WOULD NOT END UP TAKING ANY PHOTOS AT ALL IN LIFE. YOU SEE IT AND CAPTURE IT AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

CHEERS. GOOD JOB

I prefer the first - rules are meant to be broken

Lovely young lady - take your vitamins

I played with it and I liked it best as a square image with a small amount of space between her ear and the edge of the frame. She's a cutie.

She's a cutie!
I know books will say "rule of" this and that, but that photo shows me something of who she is.
So, success!
