There is a growing thread on Nikonians, with someone's recent experiences with it. It's in the tripod forum.

just got mine yesterday and it is great, folds up just a hair longer than the 1541T. It works well with the Markins Q3T and M10 as well

Looking at one today.. the distributor in Canada is saying the GS5160CDT Arca Swiss adapter works well but the review in Nikonians says some peopole don't like them.

I have RRS plates now but only a BH-55 ball head for my 3541LS.

I'll need another head BH-40 or similiar but I wonder if there is an adapter out there that works good enough that I can get buy with the Gitzo head. Don't want to waste the $50 on the adapter if it doesn't work.

Like you they said you can't just buy the tripod, better to by the set and just then sell the Gitzo ball head.

Service Manager in Canada says the ball head is very good.. a lot better than the old ones.

RRS says if I keep the Gitzo head that I should remove the Gitzo platform and install the Gitzo "Arca-Swiss style" clamp. The model number is GS5360AS. RRS says the GS5160CDT adaptor does not work well with RRS plates.

Any other feedback on this?
