In no particular order:

New 1DsMkIII for $3850
New 300/2.8 IS for $3080
New 400/2.8 IS for $4900

Actually new - not LNIB.

Very impressive.

Very lucky actually.

I have to admit that I cheat...a bit. I live in a tax free zone so I get the VAT (sales tax) refunded which at the time was 17.5% in the UK. Also, I paid in Pounds Sterling and those Dollar prices are converted at today's rate. However, as everyone else was quoting in dollars I thought it made sense.

Still, no matter how you look at it, that 1DsMkIII was a steal and I love it.

The owner of my company gave me a grip for my 20D.

I bought another 20D and a Sigma 50-500mm (both in perfect condition) for $1,200.00. As I was ready to drop a grand on just the lens (new), I thought that was a pretty good deal...

When the US $ was at par last Feb, gotta 50L for $1150 US, no taxes from BH (shipped to my in-laws in Fla).
It's now $1900 Can.
Nice.

Even sweeter...when the US $ was at par I scored a brand new 24-105 for $900 here on FM and Canada Customs was too overloaded so the lens arived tax-free

Also tied for sweetest deal: bought a mint EF50 f/1.4 with a broken autofocus for $100...Canon replaced the mechansim and USM for $60 ...and voila a good as new 50 1.4 for CAD$160 (US$145) !!!

...and I've never regretted any of my FM purchases...all great!

I got two great deals. The first was a 400mm f/5.6L and after that a 200mm f/2.8L. I got them from Buy + Sell and from two Great guys. This is reason I will buy and sell here, somewhere that honest people still exist. I love FM because it is a place I can retreat to that has people with the same purpose I have.......

Waaaaay back…through a set of "odd" circumstances…I paid $24.95 for a NEW 21mm 2.8 MC W.Rokkor-X, one of the finer ultra-wides made then (and perhaps now).

If you've still got it, I'll give you $25 for it right now.

I just bought a refurb 40d for $699 from adorama. I think this is a sweet deal. I am a newb though so I need to really learn how to use it properly now. The camera looks brand new , not a mark on it and so far works wonderfully. I would not hesitate to buy a refurbed camera from them again.

I confess that it was a steal, but not the way you suggest!

Currency fluctuations USD/EURO and the low price for the 5Dii in Japan all helped

Mine isn't as amazing as some others here: $1050 for used 5D with grip, 2 batteries and shutter release (last Oct.)

Very happy with it though

Well I got the 5DII body only for $2600 shipped with free 3-day shipping. And it was in stock, so it shipped right away!

My best deal was figuring out the time spent looking for the best deal sometimes doesn't add up to the amount saved. Now, happening onto something by chance is totally worth it.....just hasn't happened to me, yet.

I learned this when I was a younger, dumber lad (yet more daring). In 2003, Amtrak was having some mega sale, so I bought train tickets from Chicago to Washington DC for $16 each way. Boy was I impressed with my round-trip cross-country vacation for less than the price of a night at the movies. Of course, after sitting in a train seat for 24 hours each way, I realized that I could have spent those two transit days working, bought a plane ticket with my earnings, and still have had money left over to spend on the vacation.

you ordered 5 copies of this lens to pick the best?

+1 for return fees.

I cherry-picked the best 17-40 (one of the new ones was better than my current copy) and sold everything else.

If I understand correctly, he sold off the lenses and the flashes (i.e. a profit of a 580EX II for every 17-40mm he bought/sold). He also managed to swap his 17-40 for an even better one.

thats a insane deal free 580EXII with every lens purchase.

newegg's prices seem pretty cheap too when compared to BH or Adorama. To bad I live in California and automatically qualify for 9.750% sales tax
