I am wondering if the head is made by the same people who make the Feisol ballheads? If so I wonder how well they will last because I have heard the Feisol ballheads aren't all that great?

PhotoClam is made in Korea. Feisol is made in Taiwan. Not likely the same manufacturer.

That makes the assumption that water breaks down CF. The CF is actually CF encased in plastic polymer, and I can't see any reason that water would weaken plastic to any significant degree.

Totally agree I would think it;s more like tripod abuse

I think that would be good, I just returned a Manfrotto head today I hated it now I am looking for another and this PhotoClam looks great and for the money hard to beat. My problem is I hate to spend a lot of something I very seldom use but when I do use it I want it to be good.

I just ordered one of these heads I hope they are as good as you say? I was pleasantly surprised to see that the link you provided the seller is in the next State over from me in Oregon. Heck I will have it this coming week. I also ordered a couple plates from him.

I ordered a PC-40NS from reallybigcameras last week as well. I had been considering a Markins Q3, but the better knob setup for 180-degree tripod legs swung me to the Photoclam.

I talked with the person running this site and he compares the quality of the 40 to that of a Markins M10 if it is I am very happy

Well, I guess we'll find out pretty soon. I am coming from a Giottos MH1300, which was generally pretty nice, but did "sag" enough when locked to change the composition of a 300mm+ shot sufficiently to be annoying. I hope that these higher end ballheads are all they are cracked up to be.

I agree and I hope I am not getting a sales pitch but like I said the man said he compares them to the Markins M-10 in quality wise and workmanship. SO I will see soon

Korean craftsmanship and automation are supposed to be very good. Like PhotoClam, Markins is also a Korean manufacturer.

Yes I know that Markins were made in Korea and it was one of my favorite heads next to the Arca Swiss Z-1 I am excited to getting this head

Well, the Clam came in tonight, and I am very pleased with it thus far. This design is far better than having a separate tension knob. The ball moves smoothly even under high tension settings, and yet it only takes 1/4" turn or so to go from loose to locked up.

Today I got the PhotoClam and I must say I am very impressed it's better than I was expecting. I have owned many types of heads from Arca Swiss Z-1 to the Markins M-10 and 20 then throw in a couple Kirks and imo the only one that was better than this Clam is the Z-1. This head is rock solid and locks on very well, smooth as silk and just one good looking head what even better I got this head and two lens plates and saved some money.

Told ya

Finally get to do some real hiking with my PhotoClam + CT3442 this weekend, it's going to be so much nicer than the 6 or 7 pound Giottos setup I've lugged around for the past four years.

Well I am still lugging around a hunk of heavy metal I use the Manfrotto 005XPro but I am loving this head, now it has me thinking of getting a CF tripod to lighten the load

Definitely worth it if you get very far from the car for your photos. I hike several miles pretty regularly and whereas half the time I would simply leave my tripod behind before due to weight, I can strap this one to my backpack and hardly notice it.
