Hugely better (1Ds 3) in the sun. Same in shade / darkness.

Will vote next week. What's the score in the meantime?

Let me ask this: I bought mine used, would I be able to get the work done free? I'm guessing no. I don't believe I have any issues with mine, but may as well get it done if it's free.

My friends 1Ds Mark III works "much better" after the fix. I get my 1D (non s) back most likely today, so will test it this week-end if I do.

Just call Canon, only thing they need is the serial # and your address, no problem with if you are the original owner.

Good luck.

I bought a used 1DsIII and it is currently in transit for the fix, for free.

What fix?

I'm very interested to hear from people after this fix who are using AI Servo tracking a subject moving directly at them.

I would like to move to a 1D3 later this year, but if this AF thingy isnt sorted out, I may just sit out.

+1 and add AI-Servo with a fast moving subject and burst accuracy to the test! That is the reason why I abandoned the 1D3 and moved to the dark side.....

3 - huge improvement
4 - better
4 - same
4 - worse

I guess you'd have to call that pretty inconclusive - unless the "same" category includes people who didn't notice problems but sent their cameras in anyway.

The fix is meant for the outer AF points. It's possible that those who voted "The same" are those who use the central AF point exclusively.

But anyway, not many voted so statistics has yet to play its role here.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Haven't voted yet as just clicked off about 20 frames. First reaction is that it is much better. My 85L is spot on with 0 MA now on the center point whereas it was a +12. Outer AF points seem better as well but there are two frames using the top center point that are just wonky. I might have screwed up so I am not ready to blame the camera.

Can the people who voted for 'worse' confirm that they have adjusted all their micro-adjustment settings since the camera returned?

I just sent mine in no questions asked. I called Canon, told them I no longer had the paperwork (which I don't), gave them the serial number, and they then sent me a shipping label.

I don't see any reason to have mine "fixed" as it's never shown me evidence it's broken.

it might be helpful if or when you ever decide to sell the camera. an "i called Canon and they said the camera did not need the fix or it did and i sent it in" can only help sell the camera.

my 1d3 works well for me. i use center focus 95% of the time so didn't have focusing issues. however, i sent it in and just received it back today. why not?

Well I've sent mine out this past Monday and it's now completed, I should be getting it back next week…I’m guessing Tuesday, Wednesday

I have a feeling that not all those that voted 'worse' actually own this camera. I'm not sure how useful the results of an anonymous poll are on these forums.
