They only have a month of reviews on resellerratings.com, I'd be wary.

Hunts, Roberts, Adorama and Kenmore all have the 5D2 in stock. Why play around with an unknown.

I can't help but laugh at the name Photo Loon! Who calls a camera store that? Funny, but I'd be worried about ordering from them. Canoga Camera also has the body in stock. Very nice company to deal with.

Pyxis told me in one email that the $2,479 was for a body with the USA warranty card even though it doesn't say it on the auction. (Only the $2,618 package says "USA warranty" on the auction.)

I emailed again and asked them to change the auction to say "USA warranty" then (before I'd purchase), and they replied they can't because it's an import body. (same body, just no USA warranty card)

So you gotta pay an extra $140 to get the USA warranty card and a bunch of generic CF cards and accessories.

I'd be interested is seeing how that works out. I e-mailed another ebay seller, "fumfiecamera" about the same USA warranty issue yesterday, and so far no response.

Because with the $200 live.com rebate, the price comes down to $2299, and roughly $400 savings -- not insignificant.

However, I think the USA warranty is well worth it for an additional $100-200. At the very least, being able to register it with Canon USA gets you $100 repair coupon, not to mention the additional piece of mind.

If all that is required is a box marked by the factory/importer "USA warranty" with a USA warranty, I don't think it matters much who you buy it fro over the internet -- provided of course they have a reasonable track record, and you have reasonbly sure assurances/protection.

It seems like a lot of places are waiting for the next shipment of the 5D Mk II kits.

With the shortage of batteries and grips, maybe they're holding back for that reason.

B&H seems to be accepting orders now and will ship when available, but they are charging you when you order. These are one of the few I would trust!!

i think as long as you have a receipt for an authorized seller, canon could care less if it's an import or "usa" model...since they go off of the receipt.

but i could be wrong.

Why would you even think about dealing with a scammer like that?

They're not outright scammers, they just practice shady business practices and as long as you know what you're dealing with I don't see it as a problem. Buyers do get the camera, and no doubt it works the same as one from B&H. Three months after the purchase, will you be thinking "darn, I should have bought this at B&H for $400 more"?

The savings add up: more than $200 less than retail, then another $200 off thanks to the Cashback rebate, and $243 in sales tax (compared to buying it at Best Buy).

That's a savings of over $600, which definitely helps to take the sting out of camera bodies' vicious depreciation.

The thing about Pyxis (aka Sunshine Electronics) is that they have a well documented reputation for selling grey market gear. That's OK if it's what you're expecting to get and you get a sufficient discount. In this case though there are other Ebay merchants who have no such negative history selling the same camera for a similar price. Cameta, for instance, was selling US warranteed 5D2's on Ebay for $2579 last week. I think the $100 premium is worth it for a reputable company selling US market gear (while I agree the effective $600 premium for B&H et al. is harder to justify).

Short answer is all these vendors have their place, but any prospective buyer should do their homework using resellerratings and know what to epxect prior to ordering.
