Just put all my Canon gear on Ebay and bought the Nikon D700 with 24-120 vr lens . Would like to know the best lenses to use with this camera . My fav everyday lens from Canon was the 24-105 is. How does Nikon version compare ? Thanks Jerry |

The 24-120vr is an inexpensive consumer lens. IIRC, it was the first consumer superzoom with AF-S and VR. I've had one for years and it works fine as a general walk around snapshot lens. ATM, it's the best FF lens available in that FL range, that has the features of fast focus and VR. Otherwise, there are a number of lenses in that focal range that don't have AF-S and VR. |

The 24-70 f2.8 is probably the most popular pro lens. My favs are 14-24 f2.8, 24-70, 105 micro and 105 DC f2.8, 60 micro f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 200-400 f4, and 24 PCE. |

The Nikon 16-85 VR is also a very nice lens. I too loved the Canon 24-105/4L IS but now that I am shooting Nikon, the 16-85 VR is working fine for me. |

IMHO the 24-120VR is the worst option you could choose. Although it's almost an ideal focal length the optics are at it best sub-par. It's nowhere near the 24-105/4.0 IS |

Chris.... I get the camera on Tuesday and it comes with the 24-120 vr as a package and from what I have read about it, I think it will be going straight on Ebay. Looking at a few Tamron alternatives |

I "only" have Nikon lenses but I've heard/read a lot of good things about the Tamron 28-75/2.8. Sigma has a new 24-70/2.8 HSM. |

Just a stupid thought. Maybe try the lens a bit, to actually see for yourself, whether or not it will do what you want, before you send it to ebay. |
