Just got a G1 4/3 Micro and my FD adapter gave it a quick tryout. It's nice to be able to use my FD lens digitally with Infinity focus available, even if it is a 2x crop. ![]() Canon FD 7.5mm F5.6 Fisheye ![]() Canon FD 50mm F1.2L ![]() Canon FD 50mm F1.2L ![]() Canon FD 50mm F1.2L ![]() |

Finally, some interest in the G1! |

Thanks for comment on the 50L. That was my favorite FD lens for years. No comment yet as conditions weren't the best for these first shots, nightfall setting in and just taking it out on a trial run, without tripod. I plan on giving it a good run through with all my FD lens and tripod mounted. |

Ha! Thats what my old 7.5mm FD fisheye looks like via digital capture. I'm considering adding a G1 too for my old FD lenses. Did your adapter come from Cameraquest or Jinfinance or ? |

Hi Lindy Cameraquest adapter Stephen had one in stock, it took awhile to get the adapter to work, its just simple turning but not straight forward. Not a problem with good ole 10038 since there is no aperture pin or lever to use so its aperture worked from get go, but the others I kept getting wide open only or partially closed down. Now I am able to get it everytime as long as I take the adapter off the camera. |

The G1 and other's to follow will give new life to the FDs. Buy 'em while you can afford to--look at the prices of C-mount movie lenses--especially the wide ones. |

Do you get a focus confirmation when using a manual lens like the FD? |

There is a lot of noise in the first picture and the picture of the bench. What ISO were they shot at? |

I only had the old AE-1 'kit' lens of 50 f/1.8 but decided to buy an adaptor (bought the Cameraquest which most believe is same as Rayqual) and bought a 24 f/2.8 from KEH. I'm really enjoying using both with the G1---MF is SO easy. I"m used to a reasonably decent VF with the 5D, but this is wonderful. Some have complained about very low light, but with practice--works great. Without it--one wouldn't be able to focus at all ![]() G1 FD 50 f/1.8 f/1.8 1/30s ISO250 (handheld) RAW processed in LR 2.2 ![]() G1 FD 24 f/2.8 f/2.8 1/30s ISO320 (handheld) RAW processed in LR 2.2 ![]() One from FD 24 f/2.8 taken this morning--saw this as I woke and grabbed the camera--right from LR 2.2 as an export f/2.8 1/160s ISo 125 (I use auto ISO when in A) My personal feeling is it needs a bit more PP, but.... ![]() I haven't had time to really give either a good chance on other subjects. Hopefully this week. I do have both Panny lenses and find the 14-45 very good. The other is fine for my use--I don't shoot tele much. I love using these--such fun and I'm getting better again at MF. Plus--for critical focus, the MF assist is just outstanding--couldn't be easier. I'm glad some other lens were shown--I really would love that FE I think--and maybe a 35mm (70mm equiv. on G1). I am hoping that the G1 and successors will take alternate lens to new heights. I just ordered all the adapters and a bunch of different lenses to try. I have the Panasonic adapter coming from Taiwan. That should enable me to put on some 4/3 lenses including the Panasonic Leica Summilux 25 mm f1.4. I have this adapter that will mount my Nikkor lenses to the 4/3 camera which should mate up with the Panasonic adapter which mate up with the micro 4/3 G1. I ordered two different Canon FD lens to the G1 adapter and a couple of Canon FD lens. I have the M42 to G1 adapter coming so I can mount any M42 lens to the G1. I have the Leica M mount to G1 adapter coming so I can get all the Leica M lens, well I am not that rich so I will settle on a couple of Voigtlander M lens for the G1. |

I've been trying to find a less expensive 4/3rds to m4/3rds--they all (exept B & H which is sold out--$139) are $170-over $200. If I had the 4/3rds adaptor it would give me a bit more flexibility. Other adaptors are coming down in price as there is some competition--not sure why Panasonic has the only 4/3rds to m4/3rds available (though someone told me that jinfinance on ebay is going to offer one). |

I wonder how well a Four Thirds adapter without electronics would work, considering all Four Thirds lenses have electronic aperture with no physical control, and many have electronic focus-by-wire. It seems to me that without electronics in the adapter you'd lose both aperture AND focus control. |

I'm curious if anyone has updates to this thread. This is *potentially* fantastic for FD users. Everything above looks a little soft, but if they'll clean up in PP, it would be great. |

You don't lose light. You image circle will just get cropped by the smaller sensor. |

You're referring to my shots above?? They are pixel sharp at 100% at focus point--considering they were all shot at f/2.8 and f/1.8--shallow DOF which I wanted--or needed the wider aperture because they were shot in very low light (I feel that embedding Pbase shots, already compressed, does degrade the photos a bit). I would put the sharpness up against my 5D shots shots similarly and processed as RAW and shot quite wide open also (as long as I visually get the focus correct which is the only way you can focus the alternative lens with adaptors). They have had capture sharpening and sharpening after resizing for web--I don't like oversharpened photos (IMO), so it may be you like yours sharpened more than I sharpen mine. I use capture in LR and PKS for output. |

Jim which ones, I can give you more detail. Yes I agree there is a softness in the WA. |
