Another from the partly frozen Charles River in Waltham, MA.

Canon EOS 50D
Shutter Speed 1/4000
Aperture Value 8.0
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
Exposure Comp -1/3
ISO Speed 800
Lens EF400mm f/5.6L USM

Looking back at this EXIF, 400 iso for less noise might have improved the sharpness.

My point of focus should have been on the fg bird, not the bg bird.

Cute birds though, huh?

C&C welcomed.

Thanks,
Sean

Ahhhhh.... the storied Hooded Mergansers... I guess they really do exist.
Nice image Sean, agree with the focus point... I'm sure you'll get another chance before I do.

Thanks, Brenton. Yup, I've been dressing for even colder temps then we've been having. Santa brought me a pair of those fingerless gloves with the mitten flap. Perfect for cold weather photography.

Thanks Lil! Yeah this forum is great for folks in different climates to see what other folks are seeing. I'll trade ya a slightly frozen hoodie for one those hummers buzzing your house.

Thanks Ant. I wish I had gotten more shots up to par with FM. An extra cold start of winter has brought in mergs, goldeneyes and ring-necked ducks. ~I'll be baaaack.

Thanks. They look like little clowns, huh? Yup, I should have more chances at these guys before they head north in a few months. Hopefully I'll get as interesting a scene.
