I was just about to pull the trigger on 2 Elinchrom 400BX's and a friend of mine started talking about the Einsteins.

Does it make sense to wait? B&H just dropped the price on their 400BX kit by $100, so it seems like a super deal at the moment. On the other hand two Einstein 500's seem like they would be terrific if they are what PCB says they'll be.

I'm in no real rush to receive the lights and I COULD wait if it made sense.

Yeah, keep bugging Paul... we're all waiting for those things.

You could wait for as long as it takes or you could get a great set of lights at a great price, and start taking pictures. If you really want or need total wireless freedom it already exists in Elinchrom's RX series. I think I can safely say, most of what really matters is being able to adjust exposure output from the camera and you can do that with the RX system. Plus the light quality, accuracy, and light modifiers are wonderful.

BX400, or if you want remote control, the RX600 with Skyport.

Absolutely no way I can afford the RX600 or I would be all over that.

EDIT: I'll also mainly be shooting on location and I was hoping to use something that will run on a Vagabond type deal.

Oh well, B&H just raised their prices $100. Doesn't hurt to wait a little bit longer now

You can use a BX-400 with the Vagabond II. Even at $100 more they're still better than anything in their class. They have wonderful color and very accurate exposure control. But, in March their new BXr 250 and 500 will be out with built in Skyport. Those will be hard to beat.

What about a 600RX? Would those run on a Vagabond II?

They'll run on the Tronix Explorer XT, for sure!

Over here the BX/Ri 250/500 w/s strobes are already available since december 2008...

Pretty good stuff with built-in Skyports

How does the price on the BX/RI 500s compare to say the 400BX? Are they a lot more?

I think two BX400's are around 1000 dollars in the US.

A set of two BX/Ri 500's is around 1000 euros over here. I can't find the price in dollars yet. But I doubt it will be much more than the BX's.
