I'm really starting to like this Hawk. I go to photograph Eagles and when they're not around this Red-tail appears...as if it feels sorry for me. This is the fourth day in a row I've managed some photo's of it. (I swear I don't pay nor feed it )

Anyway...I watched it raid a Squirrels nest and I'm sure the Squirrel had a heart attack with the Red-tail stomping around on top of it trying to catch it. The Hawk left without a meal but it was something to see in person.

1. Not the best image...I had a tough time focusing with all the branches.

I never get tired of seeing fine images of Raptors!!! Your shots are very nice here Duane, and I hope you continue to post more of this guy!!!

I like Squirrels also but If one has to go I'd like to see it this way rather then being run over by a car or killed by a feral cat. I almost didn't follow the Hawk to it's last perch...I'm glad I did and got to watch what happened. I always thought they were an ambush hunter.

That has got to be a squirrels worst nightmare! Nice behavior, I didn't know they did that.

Duane you must be a good luck charm buddy, that hawk seems rather trusting of you. I have one showing up occasionally in my back yard, so my wife tells me She said it landed on a branch I had placed at my bird feeders just 2ft from my big bay window, nope I didn't see it Hmmmmmmm wonder what brings him to my feeders

Pics all look good and sharp and you did real well on the light buff breast feathers, not too bright, just right Just keep sharing cause not many of us have this opportunity my friend.

It was pretty serious trying to get at the Squirrel...it tried serval angles but it had a hard time moving around with the branches. It gave up after about 10-15 minutes and like you...I didn't know they hunted this way. It did attack the nest from what I could tell at that distance...maybe one was entering or leaving the nest when it flew into it. Thanks for the reply....I like the pose in #3 as well so I tried to get several shots of it as it was looking for the Squirrel.

Thanks Karl....I go to this place for Eagles mainly but I'm always scanning for Hawks. Maybe I get lucky or maybe I think like them (or know their usual trees they perch in ) but this one hasn't let me down yet...I don't see it every time I go there but I'd say here lately about 90% chance of seeing it. I hope it stays in the area to nest (doubtful because it hangs around were the Eagles' nest is) but it's my dream to follow a nesting pair of RTH's.

Forgot to post the Nello shot....I got alot of shots like this hoping it would turn around....it didn't for the most part.
