I started playing around with a couple techniques to fix some bad pictures my mother took (with a really old, really cheap digital camera). I hadn't used the techniques before in PP with my own shots, so I decided to go back and touch up a few photos I thought could benefit. Primarily it was working with highlights and shadows to improve the clarity of the pictures. Some were helped a little, others were helped a lot.

All pictures from 2007 in Northern Michigan. Most of them posted here in the past.

Gif dropped the resolution a bit, but it certainly shows the difference. Not a big edit per se, just something I hadn't thought to do/noticed before. The reflection of the sunlight off the water really blew out the highlights in the beach images. With the high contrast in the water reflections, it also really washed out the darker areas of the picture.

It's especially noticeable in the Blackbird photo. The details of the bird are much crisper now and the background is a lot less harsh than before. For the Osprey and Dragonfly it didn't change as drastically, but did bring out a little more detail in the dark feathers of the Osprey, and the body of the dragonfly.

It's always cool to discover some new PP techniques, you've done well with these.
Still looking for my first DIF, yours is excellent.

Charlie, very nice work and I admire you going back to the old shots and reviving them. I too have done that often as my processing skills improve. You did a fine job on those re-works and that Gif action is a very cool way to show them, I like that!

The osprey does look great, and I thought I was the only one lucky enough to see the Rusty Blackbirds here in Ohio. Keep at it, and thanks for sharing the shots and progress.

Impressive indeed, especially after seeing the before/after presentations. Don't know if I could do that with my stuff but it's nice to know it's possible.
