My daughter brought our grandson, Rowan, over the other night. After nursing, he crashed on her lap. He was too peaceful to risk moving the bib.

Your c&c are welcomed.

I'm an amateur also looking to improve. Take my comments with that in mind!

It's a beautiful scene, nicely captured. The background is nicely blurred with nothing competing with the subject, except the bib which you explained, and anyway that doesn't detract for me - it's a 'natural' part of such a scene.

It appears that your focal point is around the mouth and shoulder area. Slightly more depth of focus would have kept the eyes sharp too. Just my 2c!

Nice shot on the whole, definitely a keeper.

I agree. A nice shot that could be improved with more DOF.

My Simple Suggestions:

1. More DOF next time.

2. Convert to BW this time.

3. Consider a crop to a square format (this time).

I hope these suggestions help you.

Thanks to all for the input.

Steady: I'll try suggestions 2 and 3 today - results later.

Thanks again.

Black and White / Square Crop

I cropped it tight because I wanted to avoid a partial-amputation of his hand and leaving the hand in the pictue didn't seem to work for me.

Comments?

Crops are a personal choice.

I did not try to crop the image before.

I "envisioned" both the head and the hand in the picture. But...like I said...I did not crop it. Since the image posted was too large for me to see on screen at one view (without scrolling) I can not tell.

Hmmm...I think showing more of the body/pillow AND the hand will look better....more like "sleeping" infant rather than "head."

But...it is your call.

The bw looks nice.
