Hi,
I am a college student just getting into the whole photography world. This past semester i have been checking this website daily learning from all of your work. I recently had to take some pictures for the improv team. They wanted head shots so i took some, i really would like to hear your comments or criticisms on the technical aspect of this picture.

I am too getting into the studio shots, so I will let someone with more experience critique your lighting, but I would say some sharpening would do the shot some justice. Whether you accomplish that with post, or not shooting quite as wide open, I think it would add more to the photo since the subject is very close.

[edit] Now that you have resized it, it looks better. I dont know whether thats because you have adjusted the sharpening, or if the resize makes it look less noticeable...

First (man with bubble gum) - does not seem right for big space to left. Normally I would like this but with the all white background it is a bit distracting. I would not frame so close to the joint on his collar. It is an odd picture - the expression does not fit with the bubblegum - he looks anguished - how does that fit together with gum chewing.

@2nd (man with table tennis rackets) - the space above and below coudl be cut in 1/2. I am not sure what the message is. Normally I would not put something in front of the subject face and if so I would take the glasses off for less busy. If it is a portrait should you not have his face.

Lighting is pretty good for me on the bubble gum man.
