Taken today of my wife Joanne Carrying our third child, due in early January, a little girl. It has taken me a while for me to talk Joanne into letting me take a few pictures of her like this so I am very privileged.

Camera was a Canon 300D and used the 18-55 lens.
focal length 55mm
ISO 100, f/11, 1/200

Lighting set up was a vivitar 285 to camera right and to the side of joanne with a diffuser panel in front and a vivitar 285 bare for a hard rim light at camera left and behind and to the side of Joanne. Both flashes were set at 1/16.

Thanks for looking.

I really like it! It's fresh and new. A maternity style I haven't really seen often.

Only critique is that I see some weird banding along the shadowy part of her body.

The lighting might be a touch too hot on her tummy/left leg, but otherwise I like it.

Very well done imo... my wife is also due in early January, though I doubt I could convince her to let me shoot something like this.

My only nit is, I wish there were less light on her left (far) leg... I get just a little distracted there.

Congrats!

I think it is stunning. I've looked at quite a few maternity shots here recently on the people forums, but in my opinion this one really stands out. I don't see the banding in the shadowy part of here body here on my work monitor. I'll have to look again at home.

Agreed. You could burn that down easily in PS.

Good point. I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. I would think that would be pretty easy to tone down in PS.

Excellent image !!!!! Glad you were able to capture the emotion and beauty... means the world 18 years from now.

I see some fo the "banding" (higher end monitor color corrected) and IMHO it seems to be artifacts from compression during either the jpg creation or web hosting...

Good critique. +1 from me.
I like this shot because it shows the size and shape very well, and the lighting is so well done. Nice rim lighting and the belly is highlighted nicely too.

Hey Thanks for all you comments and advice.
Thanks for pointing the left leg out to me and I cannot see any bands at my end?
Here is an edited version from your pointers.
Thanks again.

I still see banding. Also the background looks pixelated. Nobody else sees this?
